Stage 1 Drought Watch Plan

Waco, TX — The dry conditions and lack of rain in the last couple months has prompted the Brazos River Authority to put the area under a Stage 1 drought plan.
Some of the reservoirs near the northern part of the Brazos River have reached levels that trigger an area-wide drought watch.
Stage 1 will not affect residents in the area quite yet, but it does mean that cities and businesses who are customers of BRA must start to decrease water use by five percent.
"These are kinds of mechanisms to make the public aware that it is dry, you need to be cautious and think about how you use water." said Aaron Abel, Senior Water Resources Manager for BRA.
The last significant amount of rain came in September.
Since then, the Waco area has seen a trace of water.
