Waco, Tx — Thousands of "boxes of love" are on their way to customs to give children overseas a brighter Christmas this year. It's all possible through the community's generous donations.
“At first we were in shock but today we are just greatly rejoicing because last year we were scraping to reach 13,000. This year we were hopeful to reach 14, 000. Now, we are just amazed that we reached that goal. A big thank you goes out to the community for the outpouring of their generosity,” said Debbie Quarles, Community Relations Coordinator of Operation Christmas Child for the Heart of Texas.
Tuesday morning, 771 boxes collected from Waco Chick-fil-a and 712 collected from four others in Temple and Killeen, along with other boxes collected in the community, were shipped off to a processing plant. From Novemember 12 to November 19, Operation Christmas Child boxes were collected through organizations, local churches, and even restaurants. A total of more than 15, 800 boxes from Central, filled with toys and necessities are en route to Mexico and Central America.
