At 2:24 this morning 37-year old Michael Garcia of South Waco was involved in a single vehicle motorcycle crash at 8th and I-35 access road. Garcia was thrown from his motorcycle after striking the curb and died.

It is believed that Garcia was travelling at a high rate of speed, ran the stop sign, failed to negotiate the turn and struck the curb. Garcia and the motorcycle were thrown all the way into the far South bound traffic lanes of I-35 where the motorcycle was struck by a passing eighteen wheeler. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The motorcycle became lodged under the truck catching both truck and motorcycle on fire. Waco Fire department assisted with putting out the fire on the vehicles.

Prior to the accident S. O. Deputies had attempted a traffic stop of Garcia near the 700 block of Austin Ave. Garcia fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed south on 8th street. Deputies did not pursue the fleeing motorcycle and terminated the traffic stop upon Garcia fleeing.

Judge DeCluitt was notified pronouncing Garcia deceased and did not order an autopsy.
