WACO -- In light of the continuing fires throughout the region Baylor students received a fire prevention education firsthand.
Today the Waco Fire Department and Baylor Risk Management, teamed up to host Baylor University Burn Day, aimed at educating students on fires and fire prevention.
Those at the event received an up-close demonstration of just how fast a dorm room can go up in flames.
And officials say carelessness is most often the cause.
"The dorm rooms are, a lot more vulnerable than most people think they are and then just being young adults, you know, sometime we don't think. They had a story last year of one that decided to burn a candle, forgot to put it out on his way out and caught the, the cup on fire and went from there. So they're extremely vulnerable," said Jeff Wilhelm, a fire prevention specialist.
Wilhelm also stressed the importance of exit strategies and advise to always have two exit routes in mind if ever in an emergency.
