BRAZOS COUNTY -- A body was found along Highway 21 in Brazos County this morning and now investigators are trying to determine what happened and how the body got there.
Fox 28's Lauren Holman spent the morning at the crime scene and has the latest on the investigation.
It was just another morning commute for a trucker driving down Highway 21, until he saw something unusual lying near the roadway.
"The call came in early this morning from a truck driver driving through the area who saw something that he thought was suspicious," said Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk. "So he stopped down the road and called 911."
When emergency responders arrived, they found a dead body on a gravel driveway near Sand Creek and Feather Crest Farms.
Investigators aren't releasing much information about the body found along the highway but what Sheriff Kirk will say is that they haven't ruled out any options and they're treating it as a homicide.
Investigators spent the day trying to collect as much evidence and clues as possible.
"We're finding bits and pieces of things that are curious and that we want to explain why they are there and we're working our way into the body," said Kirk.
Investigators won't say whether the victim is male or female since the body hasn't been identified yet but Sheriff Kirk says the body has suffered physical trauma.
"There is you know, what we believe is a significant wound to the body. Again it's got some investigation that's going to have to be done before we can elaborate."
