BRYAN -- Bryan Independent School District had quite the scare earlier today after a 4th grade student went missing from one of their campuses.
Almost two-dozen Bryan police officers searched the neighborhood and streets around Crockett Elementary School on Elm after 9-year-old Tucker Ortiz ran away from the school's principal.
Sandy Farris with BISD tell us the principal was trying to deal with a disciplinary issue when Ortiz took off out the front door.
The principal and another staff member chased after the boy but lost sight of him as soon as they got outside.
"Fortunately this is not a common occurrence," said Farris. "It happens from time to time when a child gets upset and decides that disappearing might be the best option, of course that's not but we do have a procedure in place and it worked very well today."
Ortiz was found three hours later by police hiding under a bridge on Cavitt Street.
Farris said the boy will now be facing disciplinary consequences for running away.
