BRYAN -- An early morning break-in in Bryan turns fatal when the victim shot at the man entering his house.
But that suspect turned out to be his grandson.
28 year-old Pierre Thomas is dead after he tried to break into his grandfather, Robert Durens', home Saturday morning.
According to police, Thomas broke in Durens' front door and then headed for the bedroom. That's when Durens fired his gun as Thomas came through the bedroom door. Thomas then fled and was found dead about 75-yards away.
"I mean it's horrible as a family member breaking into your grandparent's house and then you fire a shot and find out it's your grandson. It's got to be a horrible feeling but the guy at the time did what he thought was right, not knowing who was breaking into his house, he just thought it was a suspect," said Officer Jon Agnew.
Officer Agnew said this isn't the first incident Thomas had broken into his grandfather's home.
Police have not filed any charges against Durens but the case has been turned over to the District Attorney's Office for further review.
