BRYAN -- If you have spare change or extra cash, the Bryan Independent School District is asking that you donate it to help others.

The school district adopted a school-year theme of "Be the One."

After the wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes in Bastrop, the districted wanted to apply that theme to a fundraising drive.

Bryan ISD campuses will be collecting cash and/or gift cards now through September 21st.

It will all go towards the Bastrop ISD employee relief fund, which will directly benefit Bastrop students and Bastrop ISD employees.

Sandy Farris, spokeswoman for Bryan ISD said, "We are one community when it comes to education throughout the state of Texas so we just felt like it was important to step up and lead the way and show people that yes we can step out of the box every once in a while and do something to help someone that's an hour and a half away. "

If you decide to donate gift cards in place of cash, Farris asks that they be to restaurants, gas stations, or stores carrying clothing items.

Farris also asks even if you don't have a student attending Bryan ISD, please donate what you can.

If you'd like to make a donation you can either call the Bryan ISD office at 979-209-1022 or email info@bryanisd.org.
