COLLEGE STATION -- A Bryan man is behind bars tonight after allegedly firing a gun at the truck behind him. And in the truck? A police officer.
According to documents obtained by Fox 28, 43-year old Sonny Holligan, was driving northbound on the Highway six feeder road when he pulled out a pistol and shot it at the driver behind him, who happened to be an off-duty Bryan police officer.
The officer tried to follow Holligan in his truck but lost sight of him and later caught up with him near Bowen Elementary School on Park Hampton Drive where he was then arrested.
"The motorcyclist did tell our officers that the reason he did that was because earlier in the day he had been cut off by another vehicle and it was his opinion that the officer, who he did not know was an officer, was driving a little bit to close to him and so he said he fired a shot into the ground to scare him," said Officer Rhonda Seaton with the College Station Police.
Holligan buried the gun in someone's yard to try and hide the weapon but officers were able to recover it.
Holligan is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He remains in the Brazos County Jail tonight on $39,000 dollars bail.
