BRYAN -- It's been a heated topic for the past couple of months: Should the city of Bryan sell the municipal golf course and buy the Briarcrest Country Club?
Well now the debate is over and the voters have decided.
More than 5,000 voted on Tuesday on the parkland proposition and the decision was loud and clear, the residents of Bryan wanted to keep their municipal course.
72-percent voted against selling it and 65-percent voted against purchasing the Briarcrest Country Club.
Fox 28 spoke to some golfers this morning about the results and they say they couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Larry Mauldin said, "This course is 90 years old and I don't think anybody has the right to take it away so I was very ecstatic yes."
Harold Swanzy added, "We're thankful that they did vote against selling the golf course and buying the other golf course, which we didn't need."
Just last week the city council approved a $2 million contract to purchase the Briarcrest Country Club but that agreement will now be terminated since both propositions were rejected.
