A common way of celebrating the New Year, could take many lives this New Year's Eve. Innocent lies are lost every year, as a result of disorderly conduct on this night of celebration.

Celebratory gunfire is the indiscriminate firing of a weapon into the air. Many people are unaware of these dangers that go along with this type of shooting, and often fire a gun without regarding where the bullet may fall.

Police say, "when you fire a firearm up in the air, what goes up must come down, and those bullets come down at a fatal velocity." In less dramatic situation, the bullets can fall into houses, businesses, or vehicles, causing extreme damage. Innocent bystanders are at great risk for being severely injured, or even killed.

Celebratory gunfire is against the law. Disorderly conduct with a firearm, in the city limits, is a Class B misdemeanor, that comes with jail time and a fine up to 2000 dollars.

Police say to call 9-1-1 to report any unlawful gunfire this New Year's Eve.
