Cell phone tracking devices put domestic crime victims at risk

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between ages 15-44. Now, with GPS tracking devices on cell phones, these victims can be found by their abusers, down to their exact location.

The Meyer Domestic Violence Center, in Waco, helps 45 to 75 women and children every day. They say their main concern is for the victims' safety, but because of these tracking devices, this issue becomes even greater.

Kathy Reid, executive director for the Family Abuse Center, says that the victims need their phones to call the police, but the phones can also "put their life in jeopardy".

David Davis, executive director for the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, says it is important for victims to understand they can be tracked by other ways as well, including the history on the computer.
