BRYAN -- For months the city of Bryan has been contemplating the idea of selling the Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course and now the city is one step closer to making that move.
Last night, the Bryan City Council signed a contract to purchase the Briarcrest Country Club for $2 million but the contract won't be official until Bryan residents vote on November 8th on whether or not they want to keep the municipal course.
And while the plans have been creating quite a stir the past couple of months amongst avid players, the city says the purchase would be a good move.
Bryan Mayor, Jason Bienski, said, "It would be an upgrade because you have a lot more facilities out there. You know, we have a driving range. If you're a golfer having a driving range is nice to have, locker rooms, and much nicer vending and eating facilities there. You know, we could use the country club for a community center so the possibilities are endless."
If people vote yes to sell the municipal course and purchase Briarcrest, the country club would be turned over to the city by mid-February.
