COLLEGE STATION -- A rash of car burglaries Sunday night are under investigation.

Police in College Station found at least 18 cars broken into.

Most of the break-ins happened on the 800 block of Southern Hills.

Officers say the thieves targeted cars that were left unlocked.

"Lock your car, take your valuables out of your vehicle and if for some reason you're in a situation where you cannot take them like you're out Christmas shopping or something like that, hide them," Officer Rhonda Seaton warned.

Police say at least 14 of those cars were left unlocked.

One resident in Southern Hills scared the thieves away, who left behind him a trail of stolen valuables.
