College Station car thefts on the rise

COLLEGE STATION -- As it gets closer to the holidays, thieves have been hitting College Station hard.
Just this week there have been more than 15 car burglaries and more than five home break-ins. So officers are upping their patrol around neighborhoods and apartment complexes but Officer Rhonda Seaton tells us, they need your eyes and ears to help because they can't do it alone.
And thanks to one concerned neighbor, police were able to arrest two men yesterday breaking into cars at an apartment complex. Alejandro Barrientos and Jose Almaya were found to be in possession of stolen items, some of those were connected to car break-ins from earlier in the week.
"It's very important that the people we are here to protect call us whenever they see something that doesn't look right," said Seaton. "You know, don't take action yourself, let us respond but if you can give us a heads up and a phone call it really makes us very effective in performing our duties."
Officer Seaton says it's also important to remember to always lock your car doors, park near a light and never leave anything sitting out in plain sight.
