WACO -- Convocation is a day dedicated to getting teachers principals and superintendents ready for the school year.

But with many school districts dealing with state budget cuts right now, the event's 15,000 dollar price tag is a hard pill to swallow.

So now, Education Service Center Region 12 is picking up the tab and holding a group convocation at the Ferrell Center in Waco for up to 91 districts and charter schools.

"The most important thing we do is to give [school districts] opportunities to work together to facilitate good solutions, to whatever it is they're working on. The convocation coming up in August is just a good example of that," Executive Director Jerry Maze said.

Thanks to an enhanced curriculum fund, 43 of those districts can attend the convocation for free.

The event is August 20th and features a well-known education author and speaker Dr. Todd Whitaker.
