COPPERAS COVE -- A woman is behind bars after police find several dogs in what they described as "deplorable conditions."

Bambie Byrom is the owner of Puppy Palace in Copperas Cove where police found the dogs.

They were locked away in six different cages, and police say the amount of feces inside them was unsanitary.

The complaint filed says one dog was even too big for the cage.

Police say the dogs were given food and water, but the living conditions were enough to account for an arrest.

A Veterinarian, Dr. Kristin Dodson, says it's not only sad to see something like this happen, but it can cause more problems than you might think.

"Animals in poor conditions, even being fed and watered properly but kept in such a small space or kept in their own stool, they can have parasites, it's easier to transmit diseases, they can have respiratory disorders and just be in general poor health," explained Dr. Dodson.

In a written statement, a woman says she bought a dog there only to have to turn around and take it to the vet a few hours later.

That dog was euthanized because of poor health.

A business owner next door to the pet shop says he saw dogs kept in cages without water, lying in feces 24 hours a day.

Byrom is expected in court next Thursday.

She is back in killeen and trying to do business...lots of posts on Facebook to make people aware

Why didn't the business owner next door call someone when she saw the conditions the animals were living in?

I live in Holland but when i hear such things then I want to come over and put her in a small cage and see how she likes it to lay in her own shit without any food or water dammmm i hate such people. Hope she has to stay in jail for a long time and never have an animal again.

shouldn't buy dogs from stores or breeders in the first place the humane society has lots of great dogs same with rescue missions. I hope they punish her.

If the shop owner next door knew and did nothing he should face charges also!

Her van was spotted in San Antonio today with advertisement of puppies still on the windows...Hmmm is that legal?

I hope they shut her away in a tiny little cell with no bed or toilet! See how she likes it! WHAT is wrong with people?

We bought our dog from that lady and we had to take him to the vet because he had a bacterial infection and now we know why.
