WACO -- One group can now begin the redevelopment of an old apartment complex after being awarded the contract by the Waco City Council tonight.
Out of eight proposals, Pinnacle Housing Group was chosen to redevelop the Parkside Village apartment property.
City manager Larry Groth said their proposal fit the best with the city's goal's for the area.
It included urban housing, retail and amenities like playgrounds, street landscaping and pavilions.
Groth hopes the new development will also help eliminate crime in the area.
"The units that were there before were a real problem and for us, this is an opportunity to, to really wipe the slate clean with that and build something back that really enhances the neighborhood," said Groth.
Pinnacle plans to build 15 market-rate apartments among 150 apartments.
The rest will house low-income families and seniors.
