WACO -- When it comes to cracking down on criminals in McLennan County, the District Attorney, Abel Reyna, spoke out at a special press conference Wednesday. He says he is ready to bring justice to victims of violent crimes.

Reyna specifically mentioned the spring street double murder at Lakewood Villas Apartments in March.

Capital Murder indictments were issued Wednesday for the five men accused of gunning down two men at the apartments.

Maximum sentences were also handed down to 24-year-old Rafael Lara. Lara was running from police in April when his vehicle hit a Waco Transit bus, causing it to hit and kill Michael Benavidez.

In addition, a grand jury issued three indictments against Delaronte Walker for four cases of aggravated robberies in McLennan County in May.

Reyna says he hopes the quick indictments send a clear message to criminals.

"If you choose to prey on McLennan County citizens, if you choose to engage in violent crime or any crime, in our community, you will be met with a new, aggressive attitude," says Reyna.

Reyna says the "get-tough" policy will move criminals through the system into their sentences faster.

He especially wants to crack down on home robberies and burglaries, saying citizens should finally feel safe in their homes.
