The holiday season is full of family and friends, but if you're not responsible, you could also be seeing the plumber.
This time of the year is the busiest for plumbers, but co-owner of Cornerstone Plumbing Justin Foster has a few things you should make sure don't go down the drain.
"The number one don't is going to be grease. Next would be things that would expand, your side dishes like rice, or other times oatmeal," Foster said.
If you're looking for a quick fix once there is a clog, it may be too late. Acidic anti-clog products will actually collect with grease in the pipes and make the problem worse. So what may work for your bathroom, may not necessarily work for your kitchen.
But the best was to cure a clog is to prevent the clog, and there are ways to keep your garbage disposal working well.
"Every time you use it, make sure you run water for a long time. Let it run even after you're done while you're doing other things in the kitchen to make sure that everything that you ground up gets all the way into the main. Otherwise it sits and coagulates and gets a little slower and a little slower and a little slower, and you know, you're talking about ten years of build up you know, before it actually stops and up. And of course you know, you got 10 people at your house using all kinds of water and that's when it happens... always on the holiday.
