FRANKLIN -- A family is grieving tonight and arson investigators are trying to determine a cause after a house explosion in Robertson County turns deadly.

Firefighters responded to the home in the New Baden community near Franklin on FM 1940 around 6:30 this morning.

When they arrived, the home was already engulfed in flames. Crews from Franklin, Easterly and Robertson County battled the blaze for several hours but had difficulty putting it out because of exploding ammunition in the house due to the heat.

"After putting the fire out we did find a male body inside. Since then the body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy and the investigation is still going on between the Robertson County Sheriff and the State Fire Marshal's Office," said Steven Misterek, a Robertson County fire investigator.

Crews remained on the scene for the majority of the day watching for hot spots and flare-ups.

The house was destroyed.

Officials have not released the name and age of the male victim but tell us the family has been notified.
