The population of Texas has increased over 20 percent since the year 2000. With over 25 million residents, this surge has gained Texas four Congressional seats.

Governor Rick Perry says, "Texas remains the best place in the Nation to start a business, find a job, and raise a family.

The Waco population has increased 10 percent in the past ten years, and city officials say that many factors play a role in this increase. Waco City Manager, Larry Groth, says, "having available land, that's economical, which we have, making sure that the infrastructure works, that we've got water and sewer available, in which we do. And the absolute most important this is quality of life."

During difficult economic times, Waco has maintained it's status as the number one place for urban development and economic growth. Texas State Representative, Marva Beck, says, Waco has "three fine Chambers of Commerce who are involved in putting the word out there about what is available in the community, and economic development."

Downtown Waco has grown tremendously in the past few years, including structural development, entertainment attractions, and historical restoration. Plans for further development are underway, as more people move to the area.

Waco City officials have already been preparing for the expected population increase, by developing the community, and offering more opportunities to local citizens, and future residents.
