Federal officials arrest local fugitives

BELL COUNTY -- Two federal fugitives are now behind bars after they were arrested in Bell County Wednesday.

The United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, the Bell County Organized Crime Unit and the Howard County Sheriff's Office arrested Florence Monroe Lopez and Brittney Spiller.

The pair was arrested in Howard County, Texas.

49-year-old Lopez is from Belton. He has been charged with Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance in United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.

These charges stemmed from an extensive investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Temple Police Department.

Lopez had been the subject of an intense manhunt which was initiated in April of this year.

21-year-old Brittney Spiller of Belton was charged with Knowingly Harboring and Concealing a Fugitive.
