Hospitals around the United States are adding more activity and game rooms in their pediatric units. The Hilcrest Hospital in Waco has two activity rooms in the pediatric center for children who are admitted into the hospital. Nurses say this provides a peaceful and enjoyable environment for the children.

The game room offers a wide variety of video games, that are continuously updated to give the children multiple option.

For patients who are not able to leave their rooms, the hospital provides a portable Wii gaming system that can be rolled into the child's room, in order to give them the same ease and comfort that the other children receive.

One nurse, Megan Emory, says that she loves being able to help the kids take their minds off of their pain, by giving them something else to focus on. She says, "They smile ear to ear and their eyes just light up with joy. It just lets them know and reassure them that its not just about laying in bed and watching TV, theres other things they can do to interact and entertain themselves."

Not only does the hospital offer the children games, but they have a music box that lets them choose what they want to listen to, and also a food menu that the patients can order from.

Two of the children say that they really enjoy the time they get to spend at the hospital while listening to music, playing games and eating what they want.

One nurse said that they have recently added a number activities that that allow them to interact with the children, as another way to calm their nerves and make them feel more comfortable.

Parents say they are extremely pleased with all the fun opportunities the hospital provides for the children. Pediatric nurses say they enjoy giving the kids something they can look forward to.
