Judge denies plea in child sex assault case

A Hewitt couple is withdrawing their guilty plea in a child sexual assault case.
54th State District Judge Matt Johnson rejected John Dempsey Shotwell, 27, and Amber Shotwell, 28, request to be placed on differed probation.
This would've meant the couple would not have received a final judgment so long as they completed their probation.
The couple is accused of having sex with a 16 year old in July of 2009.
Now they'll be tried separately in February.
If convicted they face up to 20 years in prison.
