Lawmakers are wanting to pass a law for the 2011 session allowing handgun license holders to carry their concealed handguns on college campuses. Governor Rick Perry says that Texans who are legally licensed, should be able to carry them anywhere, including college campuses.
Gary Hammond, store owner of Guns R Us in Waco says, that if the person approved for the license, they should be able to carry their guns anywhere. Mr. Hammond says this could eliminate the threat of someone who is doing something wrong.
One Baylor student says she is worried that if more guns are brought on campus, they could "fall into the wrong hands ultimately, and hurt more people than intended to."
Another student says that if the law is passed, school safety would be promoted, and people could stop bringing guns on campus for the wrong reasons.
Lawmakers have until March 11th to file bills. Any issues regarding this matter could be discussed when the Legislature convenes on January 11th.
