WACO -- A local group is recruiting veterans for a new mental health program for soldiers returning from war.
The Heart of Texas Region Mental Health Mental Retardation Center is launching a new initiative to provide guides for readjusting to civilian life and the challenges that come with deployment.
"We will do is try to coordinate when there is a veteran that's in need, identifying someone who has had similar experiences that maybe can just kind of walk them through, help them as a mentor," said Tom Thomas, director of adult mental health services, MHMR.
Now MHMR is recruiting anyone who has served in the armed forces at some point in their lifetime.
They will host a luncheon Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the MHMR center to kick off the recruiting process.
