Man dies after being shot multiple times

On Sunday, officers received a call to Providence Hospital at 4:45 a.m. on a gunshot victim.

23-year-old Montrell Phenix of Waco was brought to Providence with multiple gunshots. Mr. Phenix died of his injuries at the hospital. Mr. Phenix was driving in the area of Forrest and League and was involved in a traffic collision. Mr. Phenix and the other driver had words and the driver of the other vehicle shot him.

The suspect is described as a skinny, light skinned black male with braids in his hair, around 23 years of age, 5’ 5”, wearing a light colored shirt, and dark pants, and was driving a black vehicle, possibly a Grand Am. After the shooting the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle last seen traveling toward IH-35.
