Man hides in unknown person's home following crash

Thursday afternoon about 11:40 a.m., Waco officers spotted a vehicle speeding in the 1000 block of S. 18th Street. As the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, it fled from the officer who did not pursue the speeding vehicle. As the suspect vehicle, a 1998 4 door Toyota fled the area the suspect vehicle crashed into a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban at 20th and Connor causing injury to the driver of the Suburban. Two small children, a one and three year old, were in the Suburban but were not injured.

The suspect, 47-year old Tommy Augustina Cardenas, of Waco, then abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. While Cardenas was fleeing he ran into a home in the 2100 block of Park in an attempt to hide from Officers. Witnesses advised responding officers that Cardenas ran into the home. Cardenas did not know the home owner and went into the home without their permission. Officers found him hiding inside the home. As Cardenas was taken into custody he was found to be in possession of Cocaine.

Cardenas has been charged with the following: Burglary of a Habitation, Failure to Stop and Render Aide, Evading arrest in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Cocaine. Cardenas was also wanted for Non Payment of Child Support through McLennan County and Motion to Revoke for a prior D.W.I. from Aransas County. Cardenas was additionally cited for Speeding, Possession of an Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in a Vehicle, and Driving While License Invalid. His License shows to be suspended as well.
