WACO -- Waco man remains in jail after beating up his wife and cutting her in front of their two small children over the weekend in Waco.
Police were called out on a domestic disturbance call to the 2400 block of 21st St. where 20-year-old Sergio Alexander Cosio, punched and kicked his wife before grabbing a knife and cutting her wrists while their two children were in the room.
When police arrived, Cosio fought back, sending one officer to a local hospital with an unknown injury.
They had to use a taser several times trying to take him into custody.
Police say the situation is exactly why domestic calls are commonly one of the most dangerous calls to answer.
"Those kind of calls are just extremely dangerous for us as law enforcement because if they're fighting with someone that they supposedly love and then we come in and they don't know us and they don't want to go to jail, it's obvious they're going to fight us," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton, police spokesperson.
Cosio is in McLennan County Jail in lieu of $167,000 bond and he is charged with aggravated assault-family violence, resisting arrest, evading arrest and assault on a peace officer.
He also had a previous warrant out for assault-dating violence.
