WACO -- 28 children in the state's custody will be united with a new family Friday at Baylor. It's all for McLennan County Adoption Day to celebrate the new families and draw attention to the need for foster and adoptive homes.
Phillip Johnson's family in Waco is adopting a 16 year-old boy they were fostering. After four years with the family, they decided to adopt, and make it permanent.
With nearly 6,000 children in Texas waiting to be adopted the Johnson family stresses the importance of a permanent home. "We have our own problem here in the United States with kids needing homes. These kids need support. They need families. They need love," said Phillip Johnson.
McLennan County Adoption Day will be held at the Baylor Law School Friday. The new families will meet and celebrate at the law school at 1:30 p.m.
