New bike lane indicators in Waco

WACO -- More and more bicyclists are being seen on the roads in exchange for cars. Now the city of Waco has finally stepped up, creating special lanes for the bikers.
You may have noticed the green signage on the roads downtown. It indicates the bike lanes so drivers are aware bicyclists could be on the road.
Officials hope it will also connect Baylor and downtown together and make it safer for more people to bike to work and school.
"[It's] reinforcing and making drivers more aware that there is a bike lane there. That's not a lane that they should lightly cross over to turn into driveways or turn into streets without looking for a ped-cyclist or bicyclist," said Traffic Coordinator Norman Hogue.
Hogue says it's the safest way to connect our growing downtown district.
The markers are a trial plan as of now, but the city hopes to keep them part of their plans to expand downtown Waco.
