The city of Hewitt can now expect higher property taxes.
The Hewitt City Council approved a 1.5 cent property tax hike yesterday.
This means for every $100 you'll be taxed 51.5 cents. Which is up from 50 cents.
Fox 44 crews went out today so see how people living in Hewitt feel about the increase.
"I think our taxes are high enough at this time. And I really don't think people can afford to continue paying higher taxes until the economy's better."
"Our taxes are high enough as it is. And a lot of people ain't going to be able to afford to live here."
"We pay high taxes here anyways, we pay high school taxes, we pay a lot of high things, our economy now, we're struggling."
The city says the tax increase was to raise city employee allowances.
The initial plan was for a 4.5 cent raise, but that proposal failed due to local's disapproval.
