The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is doing its part to help schools districts reduce their share of carbon emissions.
Public schools may now apply for a grant from the TCEQ to retrofit diesel-powered school buses.
Belton ISD received a portion of the grant two years ago and school officials tell us they're satisfied with the results.
"We're pretty satisfied with it. It's doing what it was planned to do. We were pretty pleased with the grant, it helped us do what we needed to do," Transportation Director for Belton ISD Jackie Fields said.
Fields said the grant has helped them reduce their emissions by 30 percent, and helped update their older buses.
The grant amount given to each school is on a first come, first serve basis.
Private schools are not eligible.
TCEQ will donate a total of $2 million.
