COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M, a university known for its sense of tradition, is continuing to make history as the school celebrates its birthday.

135 years ago, Texas A&M was founded as the state's first public institution of higher learning and it was back on October 4th, 1876 when Aggie students attended their first day of classes on A&M's campus.

As the years have passed, the University has grown to become a nationally recognized school that continues to rank year after year as one of the best universities.

Even though A&M's birthday is today, no big celebrations were planned out of respect for tonight's Silver Taps ceremony.
