Texas A&M exploring conference options

COLLEGE STATION -- Just when we all thought the talk and hype of a potential move to the SEC had finally started dying down, the Aggies are at the center of attention once again all because of a letter, notifying the Big 12 that A&M is exploring other conference options and many Aggie fans said it's about time. A&M takes that next step forward.

After weeks of talk and speculation, Texas A&M officials have finally made their intentions clear.

They want to move to the SEC, so one local business isn't wasting any time getting ready.

"Some of our customers have expressed support for the move for sure so and they have expressed want for some of the SEC logo gear so we will be getting it in," said Katelyn Horner with Aggieland Outfitters.

But some Aggie fans we spoke to aren't as excited about the announcement.

"I think it's a bigger deal, it's a bigger deal than it should be so I don't really see how it's helping any with the publicity," said A&M student, Hector Guevara.

Some say President Loftin's letter to Big 12 Commissioner, Dan Beebe, didn't come as a surprise.

"I mean it puts an end to all the drama saying that we are going to the SEC or we aren't so it kind of gives us a clear path to where we're actually going," said another A&M student, Travis McClamahn.

And while the letter to Beebe never mentioned the SEC, Aggie fans say it's the only conference move we should make.

"A lot of the SEC championships have been what, they won the last five? So kids are going to be more entitled to come into an SEC team so that way they have more of a chance to be a championship team," said Carl Vogel.

While many Aggies argue that the move is a good deal, there will always be others that tell you something different.

"Oh it's definitely split. There's definitely the people that are totally for it and want to try this new move and then there are people that are still very set in wanting to stay here but we'll see what they decide," Katelyn Horner said.

No official decision has been made yet but many speculate a decision will be made before the start of the season.
