COLLEGE STATION -- A College Station woman is lucky to be alive tonight after her car got stuck on the tracks right before a train came barreling through.

The accident happened just after noon on Sunday at the railroad crossing at Holleman Drive and Wellborn Road.

Police say 86-year-old Mary Bell was sitting on the tracks when the light turned red and the crossing arm came down.

Bell tried to move but her car stalled and wouldn't restart.

Thankfully Bell jumped out before the train collided with her vehicle.

"It was very lucky," said Sergeant Mike Dean. "Most train accidents like this end in a lot worse with serious injuries or worse so the best thing to remember is that the stop line is there at the end of the lane before you get inside the crossing arm. Don't ever stop on a railroad track. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of room in case something like this happens."

Sergeant Dean also says it's possible the driver will be issued a citation once the investigation is complete.
