CALDWELL -- A train traveling through Burleson County derails in Caldwell, shutting down the highway and railroad.
Twelve cars derailed last night around eight while crossing the Highway 36 overpass.
Eight of those cars landed in an embankment near the roadway while the other four cars remained on the track.
One of those, contained sulfuric acid but Captain Charles Darling, with the Caldwell Police Department, said the situation could've been much worse.
"Luckily it did not leak, there were no injuries. We were afraid we were going to have to evacuate at the very beginning but fortunately there was no spill out of that car," said Darling.
Crews worked throughout the day clearing the cars off the track so that the railroad could re-open.
Captain Darling said the eight cars on their sides would most likely remain in the embankment until crews can remove them.
BNSF officials are still trying to determine the cause of the derailment.
