BRYAN -- Two college students are busted drag racing down a busy Bryan street.

According to the police reports 20 year-old Abdulla Alkhoori, a student at Texas A&M, and 20 year-old Rommel Hawit, a student at SMU, were arrested Saturday night for drag racing down Wellborn Road.

An officer spotted them after they peeled out of the Wave Z's Islander apartment complex.

"45 is pretty fast as it is so now you're adding 80 miles an hour to that. It's hard to react and stop in time in case someone pulls out from another apartment complex and if something happens and you have to veer out of your lane, all they can go is to oncoming or the sidewalk so it's extremely dangerous and that's why the speed limit isn't 80 miles an hour there. It's against the law so they ended up going to jail for it," said Officer Jon Agnew.

Alkhoori and Hawit were charged with racing on a highway, a Class B misdemeanor and both have since bonded out of jail.
