WEST -- Today in West, TxDOT broke ground on another expansion project of I-35 between Hillsboro and Waco.
This is the last stretch of the interstate between the two cities as part of TxDOT's plan to expand I-35 to a minimum of three lanes going each direction from San Antonio to the split above Hillsboro.
Construction is expected to be done by spring of 2014.
Then I-35 travellers will experience a more pleasant interstate.
"The lessening of the congestion, on I-35 as they travel it will be, the traffic that we've got will be spread over, three lanes in each direction instead of two which will, increase the funneling distance between cars which is safer and much more comfortable for people to travel that way," said Jodi Wheatley, I-35 information specialist.
TxDOT will also provide what they call intelligent transportation which are messaging updates that will give real-time traffic updates and more information on road conditions up ahead.
