WACO -- It's official, after a 6-0 vote last night the Cenikor Foundation will open a drug rehab center in North Waco.
Despite concern from neighbors living in the area near the 3000 block of Lyle Avenue, city council members voted for the facility and program to start in the spring.
The deciding factor? Was that Waco needs this kind of rehab facility.
"I think the council realized that the fact that that has been a medical facility and it has been a service area and the need for the community to deal with those who are suffering from substance abuse, drug and alcohol, is a very needed thing," Larry Holze with the City of Waco said.
Those seeking help at the rehab center do so voluntarily.
The building used to be the Hillcrest Community Clinic but is currently vacant.
