TEMPLE -- A man already wanted in Milam County for threatening a police officer is now in the Bell County Jail after attempting to run over a Temple police officer.
It happened near the 14100 block of N. HW 317 when a Temple police officer recognized the suspect from a warrant and tried to stop him.
Instead the man drove to his house and rammed through his own gate.
The officer went in on foot where the driver tried to run him over several times.
Thankfully back-up arrived just in time.
"They were then able to arrest the man out of his pick up, before he was able to get from his pick up to the house. Upon arresting him there he resisted arrest violently for several minutes, had to be pepper sprayed, and then was finally subdued and put in handcuffs," Sgt. Brad Hunt, Temple Police said.
Oscar Martinez, 44 had been under surveillance by Temple Police since Wednesday waiting for him to come out.
He's charged with first-degree felony assault.
The officer was not injured.
