One Waco business fell victim to a water bill scam Wednesday, now the scammer is after residents.
After someone pretending to be with the Waco's water department targeted two restaurants trying to collect payments.
There have now been reports from people claiming they've been contacted as well.
But city officials want their customers to be on the lookout and know a call like that would never come from the department.
"We don't ever call people and demand an immediate payment. It's very seldom that we would actually call and then the other thing is, we don't ever have anybody out in the field taking money," said Jonathan Echols, spokesman for Waco Water Utilities Services.
Echols said if you do receive a suspicious call, the best thing to do is to report it to the water department immediately and they'll straighten everything out.
