Earlier this month, the city of Gatesville had two confirmed cases of rabies carried by skunks and now weeks later, they are dealing with a third.

On Wednesday, Gatesville Animal Control was called to a home that had a rabid skunk in the back yard. The officers shot the skunk and sent the body to the Texas Department of Health Services where it was confirmed to carry the rabies disease.

That makes three cases in three weeks.

The family’s dog has been quarantined to prevent possible spreading.

The first two cases were identified on March 1st and 2nd when two skunks carrying the disease were shot and killed on residential property.

Pet owners in Gatesville are required to give vaccinations to their animals annually.

If you see any high-risk animals behaving strangely, please call your local police department and make sure you distance yourself from the wild animals.
