Officer-involved shooting in Waco

Two officers involved, one man in hospital

Friday, January 11, 2013 - 3:01pm

At 11:08 A.M Waco Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a house on 3424 Forrester Lane in Northwest Waco.

"A neighbor called 9-1-1 and said that a male and a female were out in the yard or street area arguing and cussing at each other." said Sgt. Patrick Swanton of Waco PD.

When officers arrived they entered the house and saw the man armed with an undisclosed weapon. That's when one of the police officers drew their weapon and shot the man in the upper torso.

"His condition at this point is unknown. He was taken by an ambulance to a hospital. While he was here on scene he was talking," said Swanton.

"I just came out and saw everybody around and was wandering, 'What's happening?" said Linda Anderson, the next door neighbor to the house involved.

She's been living in the neighborhood for over 20 years and says the area is quiet.

She said she's never seen anything like this.

"We pretty well stay to ourselves and there's really never any problems that i know of," said Anderson. "Well it's sort of shocking to be living next to somebody and not know what's going on."

Standard procedure puts the two officers involved on paid administrated leave while the Special Crimes Unit looks into the exact details of the shooting.

But at first glance, Waco police tell KWKT the officers seem to have done what they were supposed to when confronted with armed opposition.

"At this point in the investigation it does appear that the officers did what they were trained to do and use deadly force against a perceived threat," said Swanton
