Drug cartels on the rise, many travel through Central Texas
CENTRAL, TX — A new report released by DPS shows the threat of gangs and drug cartels is on the rise here in Central Texas.
I-35 is a popular route used by Mexican drug cartels to smuggle illegal aliens, illegal substances, cash, weapons, and stolen vehicles back to Mexico. DPS reports six of the eight most dangerous cartels have command and control networks operating in the state.
Highways 57 and 90 are also popular trafficking highways going to ultimately go to and from San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin.
