Nederland, TX (KBMT) -- The family of a Nederland man who was killed in a hostage standoff in Algeria wants to know exactly how he died.
Victor Lovelady, 57, of Nederland, is one of three Americans killed during a four-day siege at a natural gas plant. Lovelady's family says he had just returned to Algeria from a visit home and had only been there ten days when militants attacked the plant.
The family tells 12 News they got word of his death over the weekend.
"We were informed by the FBI that there were preliminary reports that said my dad had been among the hostages and among the deceased. This was Saturday morning," said Victor's daughter Erin
The family received a call in the early morning hours on Monday confirming that remains found were those of Victor.
"I want to know how he died, that's important to me," said Victor's Brother Mike Lovelady.
A tearful daughter says she spoke to her father one last time Sunday, January 13.
"I am very thankful he was able to speak to me and my brother and my mom before all this happened," Lovelady's daughter Erin .
Lovelady is survived by his wife, daughter and a son.
Services for Lovelady will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland. The date and time are pending.
