WACO - 21-year-old Ramonell Stephens led police on a chase through three counties and was shot early Monday at Mexia state school.

Stephens was arrested on murder and arson chargers in the case of his father's death and destruction of his house.

He told officers, "I had to do it."

Both charges are first-degree felonies and carry up to life in prison sentences.
