KPD releases shooter's name in an attempted New Year's Eve murder-suicide

Update: The deceased male involved in an alleged attempted murder-suicide has been identified as 65-year-old Matthew Fredrick Brooks Jr. The victim, who is the shooter's wife, remains in critical condition at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. Her name will not be released at this time.

Original Story: Killeen Police currently investigating an attempted murder-suicide that happened on Lavender Drive, in Killeen, just before noon on New Year's Eve.

According to the report, officers responded to a 911 call from a female, who explained she was shot during a domestic dispute she was having with her husband at their home at 2801 Lavender Drive. While officers were enroute to the residence, they were advised the husband had also shot himself. Upon the officers arrival, they saw the 54-year-old female on the front porch. She was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and subsequently transferred to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Officers entered the residence and discovered the 65-year-old male inside the bedroom with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the male deceased at 12:36 p.m. There has been no autopsy ordered at this time.

The names of the male and female are currently being withheld.

Detectives continue to investigate this case and information will be released as it becomes available.
