Man uses knife to steal snakes from Petsmart

Thursday, February 14, 2013 - 3:23pm

Waco police are looking for the man they say is responsible for stealing four snakes from a local Petsmart Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sergeant Patrick Swanton of the Waco Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:55 p.m. A thin-build black male, described as 5'8" tall, wearing a black hooded jacket and jeans, walked into the Waco Petsmart store, located at 4600 Franklin Avenue, Suite 200. The male then asked an attendant for snakes, who in turn packaged the two corn snakes, king snake, and python that the man requested. The snakes were taken to the cashier, who asked the man to fill out paperwork. Once the man finished filling out the paperwork, he then reportedly headed out the door, without paying. The cashier tried to stop the man, but he then pulled out a knife.

"He starts displaying the knife in an aggressive manner," said Swanton. "He tells the female clerk not to follow him."

Swanton said the man threatened to kill the clerk or anyone else who tried to follow him. Once outside, the man left in a silver pickup.

If you have any information on this crime, you are urged to call Waco Crimestoppers at (254) 753-4357.
